Online schooling

Online schooling for kids is a big struggle for parents

Online schooling will be hard for kids whose schools close – and the digital divide will make it even harder for some of them.

While it’s not the normal day to day case so I am sure families are going thru a hard time to deal with this situation, on top of that low-income families will have a very harder time with online schooling.
Motivating kids to do their homework is always tough for parents, and now we can not ignore managing their day to day full-time job and families day to day routine work on a very calculated expenses was already very stressful and online schooling is making no easy for parents.
Not mentioning that some parents are facing difficulty in helping their kids for their homework which just being dumped by school class teachers as per teaching requirements or because of its easy and expecting kids complete the homework with help of their parents. My point is some parents are honestly telling, we do not have required math and science knowledge (just for example and not mentioned computer science) to help kids. I agree with those parents and I hope education authorities need to take some action and help those needed and try to ease the worries and difficulties being faced by parents.

We all know that It becomes very important to close schools for coronavirus isolation.

But at the same time, It is very difficult for kids to keep up with all online schooling plus homework – losing points due to missed or late assignments or in a submission that maybe because of the resources available for them to carry out required work on time. While saying that it is also important to highlight low-income families and students without access to technology lag behind their wealthier classmates in performance, those students are also more likely to fail to complete their homework on time because they lack reliable online study resources like computer or internet connection at home.

That again it means accepting that not all parents are equally able and equipped to help their kids keep up with Online schooling during this pandemic time.

Too much for parents

Online schooling this new system appears to depend heavily on parental support, especially for younger students. Yet many parents are caught in the job or work-related economic and logistical crises of their own. Those who are working outside of their homes have to worry about staying healthy while also finding child care. Those working from home are also forced to juggle their jobs and their new responsibility and overseeing school work for their kids.

Online schooling, is it right?

Admitting the chaos of online schooling is much bigger. In districts big and small, urban and rural, parents and students are enjoying this new reality and educators who say it’s working. I am sure they are wrong because imagine that school decided to go with online schooling that doesn't mean parents and kids are also ready for that. I wanted to say that nature of syllabus which was put in place before is also being carryout and the point is 'that was designed for in-school leaning' not Online schooling so I think authorities, school, and families all need to come together (virtually)  and discuss the best option to keeps, kids and parents, in focus while amending all requirements in the syllabus.

Recommendations for Online schooling

  • Online schooling should be place-based, not common.
  • Online schooling materials should be shared online as well as offline.
  • Online schooling class students should be connected and should be also allowed to one to one chat.
  • Online schooling classes should be more interesting interested in just point to point study.
  • Online schooling should not feel like a sentence. Doing time should not be the indicator of mastery. It should be more interactive and less speech.
  • Online schooling needs out of box thinking and states/nations to provide more opportunities for assessments when students are ready, not when it’s easiest to herd students through the tests and exams only.

After all, everyone somehow related to this problem in one way or another. So looking for a solution to this problem is also not just the job of one person but all. I am not sure why if you are a parent and going thru this problem or not but I am sure you must be knowing someone who is directly facing this issue no one is able to help at this moment. I hope that soon enough everything will become normal and again as per our nature we forget this until next time....just joking.
